I thought I'd avoided it

Unfortunately it's difficult when travelling on public transport to avoid the lurgy. It is also 'winter'. George has had it for a week, and this morning I came down with it.

Luckily with my Girl Guide skills I'd already packed a medical pouch for most ailments.

Yesterday we moved on from Udon Thani to Salon Nakhon by bus.  On arrival at Udon station, the local bus staff were very excited to see the only foreigners. They even took a photo of us before we boarded the bus.

Sakon Nakhon is a spread out city that is more traditional and less trodden than other tourists routes.  So there's not really a lot to do. Lucky for me as the one day we are here, I've spent in bed. I'm dosing up so I'm hopefully better when we move on tomorrow.

When we arrived last night we excitedly jumped in a Grab to go to the local weekend market. On arrival it had shut one hour early as everyone was in fact at another market. We flew by this popular hotspot in the taxi but decided where we were going was in a busy area. Google was wrong.

So after a quick snap at a temple and Beer Lao in a local bar, we came back - via the heaving market where everyone was having a good time. And that busy area wasn't showing on Google!!

George has been out today whilst I slept to inspect the market ready for this evening. Hopefully I can be dragged out of bed for a couple of hours to feed my cold.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
