50 something on her travels

We had a super evening on Hua Hin beach. We avoided paying the various extortionate prices for new years eve parties in hotels, which frankly would have lacked any atmosphere. Instead we opted for free fireworks on the beach. It's the first time since Covid that the firework display has taken place and it did not disappoint.  Hundreds of us took up position on the sand for the 10pm fireworks. The earlier start time was due to the upcoming high tide due later in the evening! #huahin #newyearseve #thailand 

Today we took a one hour taxi ride to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park to visit Phraya Nakhon Cave. From the car park it was a 45 minute trek up and down the rocky hill to the cave. I can't believe how many people were wearing flip-flops 😳  Luckily the tourists are not yet back in great numbers so we could enjoy the sights in peace.  The cave was truly amazing with the light coming through the opening at the top.  We should have waited another two hours to get the best photos of the pagoda in the light, but we were very happy with our view!  We also walked along the bright white beach on the way back with super views.  #phrayanakhon #huahin #cave

Christmas Day didn't feel very festive without the rain and cold - 30 degrees Celsius and extreme sunshine is slightly different!  Christmas is definitely celebrated in the various western hotels here who cater for tourists by offering very expensive Christmas Day lunches.  We decided to avoid all that. We had a simple day sightseeing at Wat Khao Takiap, ate Thai lunch at a local restaurant and had sunset drinks overlooking the beach. A nice relaxing alternative festive day 😊 #christmas2022 #huahin #thailand 

I was very excited that our hotel is a stones throw away from the beach.  Especially as this gives me the opportunity to go for a morning run before breakfast.  Alas on my first morning attempt I was met with the high tide - which appears to be the case every morning.  So I have to console myself to view the beach from my running machine in the hotel gym 😬 #sea #hightide #huahin
