Travelling across Laos is not easy at the best of times. You can fly in and out of major cities. However the roads and transport options are poor in places and quite limited as a result of Covid. Between most locations you have to opt for the motion sickness vomit comet journey of hours jogging along in a 'VIP' or sleeper bus/minivan that is trying to avoid potholes where possible. Or in the rainy season - mudslides 😱 But hey we rejoice - a collaboration between Lao and China has launched a new train service between the Chinese border (Boten) and the the capital of Laos (Vientiane). The project has been funded by the Chinese at an estimated cost of $6bn. The project took approximately five years to complete and officially opened in December 2021. I will leave you to read online news about the construction and opinion on how this will benefit Laos.
