Disappointing buffet breakfasts

We've stayed in a few lovely small hotels and guesthouses in Thailand.

Many of these places offer a complimentary buffet breakfast which is a nice touch. But the majority of the time they are inedible due to the temperature.

Take where we are staying now. Breakfast is from 7-10. Even if you get down there at 7am the food is lukewarm.

Cooked Thai food sits in silver trays with lids and a heater underneath. The heater is barely on, if switched on at all. Staff don't proactively replace or add hotter food. They open the lid, give it a stir and move on.

The Thai tourists seem to eat it even if stone cold, so I assume it's the norm and not an issue. At my current hotel, the western tourists have taken to bringing their own food to the breakfast room.

We only go in there now for a coffee and fruit, before walking across the road to get a freshly cooked fried rice for £1 each. Much tastier.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
