Boutique - I don't think so

After a successful immigration centre visit, we had a quiet few days at the lovely guesthouse in Ranong.

Yesterday we headed from Ranong on the Myanmar border, over to the west side, and a brief stop in Chumphon.

As it was only for one night, we decided to stay right in the city. It was one of the hardest jobs for me to find anywhere decent to stay. Because there was nothing. Not even something expensive that had a good rating.

So we ended up in a basic hotel which in fairness was clean. It has the word 'boutique' in its title. It's anything but. It's the only hotel I've not photographed. Apart from the delightful art above the bed.

Reviews state to avoid the rooms at the rear due to the constant noise from a dog shelter. So we asked for a quiet room which ended up being at the front. I was awake most of the night listening to the road traffic on the main road.

As you can imagine I was up early so we could exit as swiftly as we arrived. 😐

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
