Second hand trainers

Before Christmas, George had a shoe malfunction when we went out one evening. The sole on his one of his Timberland shoes came apart. His foot looked like a crocodile snapping away down the road. 🐊

So he was on a mission to get a cheap alternative to last the holiday. And I was also on the hunt for new pumps as mine were on their way to the bin.

At a local market in Bangkok we stumbled upon a secondhand trainer shop. Yes - I thought no way are my feet going in someone else's sweaty shoes. But then I went in and changed my mind.

The shop was heaving with trainers that looked so new, you'd never know. Some were very expensive brands. The manager must carefully select what he buys secondhand and then cleans them up like brand new. And yes they smell lovely!

In the end we both bought a pair of pumps each at around £9. I've included a photo now after a few weeks of us wearing them. A little more lived in, but certainly better than buying brand new.

Since that visit we've seen quite a few similar shops/market stall selling very smart seconds.  What a great idea.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
