Phimai

We decided on my first day in Isan to take a local bus to Phimai Historical Park, which is about an hour from Korat.

We had fun looking for the bus stop, but eventually a fellow Thai traveller confirmed we were in the right spot.

The bus fare was £3 in total and I can confirm the bus never broke down.  Even though it definitely needed a new clutch.

The lovely thing about travelling around Isan is that it isn't heaving with tourists. So no issues having everyone in your photos.

Phimai is Thailand's largest Khmer ruin, a crucial link to Angkor in Cambodia.

We thought we were clever to get there, but didn't realise the last bus went back at 12.30pm. After endlessly walking around the town looking for food, and me refusing a chicken feet soup, we wandered back to the bus stop. With no timetable, a helpful local told us the last bus was ten minutes late. And sure enough it arrived shortly after. George breathed a sigh of relief that he didn't need to shell out money for a taxi back. 🚕

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
