Next stop Udon Thani

After a lovely morning breakfast today, we said goodbye to our guesthouse hosts and headed north to Udon Thani.

We took the train from Khon Kaen station, which puts our stations to shame with space and cleanliness.
We took a local commuter train which only has third class carriages. They were surprisingly ok, and only cost us £1.20 total for the two hour journey.
Udon Thani is very close to the Laos border. When I worked in Laos I would come across the border to stay in Udon for the weekend. With the prime objective to stock up on western products and eat a jacket potato with cheese. 🤣 I did stumble upon the bar and previous accommodation this evening, realising it is in the centre of the red light district. 🔴

Due to a lack of quality guesthouses, we changed from our usual B&B preference to a bit of a faceless hotel. But on the plus side it has a pool, which is a welcome break from the intense heat we've arrived to.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
