Next stop Khon Kaen

Yesterday we caught the bus up north to the next stop at Khon Kaen. It was a three hour ride in a cramped coach.

We arrived at the bus station thirty minutes early and were slightly miffed why the ticket assistant insisted on us sitting down in the coach. He was very animated about this urgency. But he knew full well if we didn't claim our seats we'd be standing. And in the end it was rammed, with people standing, or sitting on plastic chairs!

Even though it was packed, that didn't stop the hawkers boarding the bus to sell their food at bus stops. I nearly got smacked in the face by a handful of marinated meat objects on sticks.

We were glad to get off the bus, as more piled on for the final part of the journey, a further three hours north.

We are staying in the city centre, around the corner from the bars and nightclubs. Thankfully we aren't vibrating during the night.

We are staying again in a lovely little hotel costing £23 a night.  I think it only has six rooms.

Breakfast this time is included and it was a great selection to choose from.
We also got to order additional food on top. This morning I had a Thai pancake.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
