Watching the weather situation

You may have seen news of devastating floods in southern Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.  Hat Yai (approx 480 miles south of here), has experienced it's worst flooding for over 300 years.

We were due to fly to Da Nang in Vietnam for Christmas and New Year. However we're holding back finalising our plans until the weather improves. We hope very soon.

At the moment we are staying at Cha-am, a sleepy beach town located on the Western coast of the Gulf of Thailand. It's about 20km away from the very built up, and western Hua Hin.

There's no big hotels or fancy resorts. It's very much laid back, and convenient seaside destination for Thai locals who come on mass from Bangkok at the weekend (only 2 hours away).  The beach is approximately 4km in length and pretty quiet all the time.

We're staying in a lovely little guest house only 1 minute from the beach. It's sunny and hot. So we think at the minute, why move until we need to? The staff are so friendly, we have a wonderful clean, large room. Costing around £17 a night, I'll say it's a lot better than some hotels I've spent £100's on in the past.

So we will consider extending our stay for at least another week while we watch the ongoing weather situation.

In the meantime we can enjoy the good food and sunshine 😀 Our new favourite Roti stand.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
