Goodbye Thailand...see you soon

On 21 December it was time to leave Thailand. We've had a lovely stay in Cha-am in a wonderful guesthouse. It was very sad to say goodbye, but we look forward to seeing them again one day.

The first part of our journey was a 3 hour coach ride directly to Bangkok airport ahead of our flight to Vietnam. Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok is massive. So much to eat, many shops to spend money in, and some great art installations.

Now we haven't eaten western food for over 6 weeks. When we got to the airport we looked at all the restaurants and decided straight away we needed some junk food. I don't eat it in the UK, but it was needed, and we enjoyed! However the price of two whoppers, large chips and large cokes was £25! George still hasn't got over the cost yet.

We booked an Emirates flight which was actually cheaper than the low cost airline AirAsia. The flight time to Da Nang was only 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The flight unfortunately was delayed and we didn't arrive into Vietnam until gone 10:30pm. With passport queuing we didn't get to our hotel until gone midnight. Our taxi driver was the most patient man alive waiting for us in arrivals!

But despite our tiredness we were very appreciative of the welcome towel, drinks and snacks in reception. Before a quick shower and collapse into bed.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
