A busy day out to Hua Hin

Friday was the first overcast day, so we decided to take a day trip to Hua Hin.

We took the slow train from Cha-am lasting around 25 minutes.  It was a really busy service due to it being public holiday.

The 11.21 train was a 3rd class fan only service. With all windows fully opened I looked like a scarecrow when I got off at Hua Hin. 🤣 The total one way cost for two adults was 30p.

The purpose of today's visit was to get some provisions. Boots Chemist for dental floss, and Asia Books for some new fiction.

I came on holiday without any books (packing light), and regretted it. I've not found any local secondhand book shops. And any books in the guesthouses are in other European languages.  I'm very happy that I've got something to read out on the balcony in the shade.

Our trip to Hua Hin was confined to the shopping mall which was very busy with European tourists. But it was a lovely respite from the heat outside. A worthwhile trip, but we were happy to be back on the train back to quieter Cha-am in the early afternoon.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
