Everything you eat comes with rice. Not the usual portion size you get in UK restaurants. It's a bowl that will feed you for a week.
We've eaten the following Sri Lankan cuisine:
* Rice (lots of)
* Little curries to accompany rice - dhal, potatoes, pumpkin, beetroot, cabbage
* Hoppers (not green legged insects) - a rice pancake usually with an egg inside
* Kottu - chopped up bread in tiny pieces that can be mixed with egg, cheese, veggies, meat etc
It's very difficult to find local cuisine when you stay in tourist hotspots. Restaurants instead want to sell you some western rubbish 🫤. They don't understand when we say we don't want a burger or a pizza. Maybe we're in the minority 😁.
