Sleepy town of Chanthaburi

3 November

We arrived on Sunday to a celebration of a shrine in the city.  So the lovely quiet street in the Old Town where we stayed was jam packed with food stalls and every single person living in Chanthaburi. So we were very extremely popular trying to get to the hotel through all the crowds with our luggage.

We stayed at an amazing heritage hotel called Punyashthiti Villas on the bank of a river.  This time the hotel was a little more pricey at £79 a night.

Chanthaburi is a sleepy place that is home to the largest church in Thailand - The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

And as always a number of beautiful temples and Buddhas.

The city is definitely not on the tourist trail and we only saw around 10 other westerners during our 2 night stay. Which was quite nice for a change.

One bonus of being off the tourist trail is the price of food.  A plate of spicy pork with holy basil, rice and a fried egg was £1.50 per person 😂. Eat like a local and pay like one too.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
