Off to Bangkok we go πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡

31 October flight, arriving 1 November

It's been a long nine months since my last holiday to Dubai.  So a return trip to Thailand was welcomed with open arms. So my laptop was firmly shut away in the cupboard and it was full steam ahead for 3 weeks away!

As per our last trip we set ourselves the challenge to only take small bags as our checked in baggage.  We achieved that objective fairly easily. My purple bag weighed in a little heavier than George's at 12kg.

Its amazing what you can fit into a small case. I don't need 21 pairs of pants - washing and laundry service is everywhere. As is the ability to buy shampoo and shower gel. There's a 7-Eleven around most corners!

We flew from Heathrow with Eva Air. Lovely airline with friendly staff but quite shocking food. Luckily we'd filled up in the pub before boarding.

It was a quiet flight that landed during Friday evening rush hour. Not a good time to catch a Grab (Uber taxi to us). When we saw the 100 odd people waiting for their cabs to arrive  we took the old fashioned public transport route by train into Bangkok. To be honest I think we got there quicker in 1.5 hours and it cost less than a fiver for us both.

We opted for accommodation on the 'quieter' side of the river at a B&B we've stayed at before. Vera Nidhra is a gem of a place to stay at a cost of £37 per night. Lovely accommodation, even if I spent hours in the night wide awake on UK time.

We only spent 2 nights in Bangkok to recharge our batteries before moving on.  We've seen the sights before, so stayed clear of walking around for hours in the extreme heat.

This year we've decided visit places we've not gone to before. Which doesn't really leave too much of Thailand. So we've opted for the east coast that runs along the coat towards Cambodia. Which is a lesser travelled route for the tourists.

And we will be clearly avoiding the hell hole of Pattaya. Let's see how it goes.

Next stop Chanthaburi.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! πŸ‘œ It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. πŸš‚✈️🚌🚒 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time πŸ‘‹ Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day πŸ–️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
