Today we took the two hour bus journey to Kanchanaburi which is known for the Death Railway (bridge over the River Kwai).
During World War II, the Japanese forced more than 60,000 prisoners of war and around 300,000 South East Asian labourers to build a railway across mountains and jungles between Thailand and Myanmar. Thousands died during the construction and it has become known as the Death Railway.
The bridge is open for tourists to walk across and take photos. When the train travels across the bridge many people stand in front to take photos. So the train moves very slowly over the bridge to avoid running anyone over!
