Wet weather changes plans

On 25 November we left Penang - I won't lie, I was glad to leave as I thought it was a dump.

The intention was to take the train and then ferry to the Malaysian island of Langkawi for a few days of sun and beach. However the weather in SE Asia is unseasonably wet at the moment making a beach trip a waste of time.  This is unfortunately also the case for the lower Thai islands.

So we've rejigged our onward journey. We hope to visit the Thai Islands later in our trip. We decided to head next for Bangkok. We looked at various options for trains and buses to take us there as we did not want to fly. However the logistics did not work out well so we booked a last minute Air Asia flight. We are now in Bangkok for 6 nights. It is good to be back!
We booked a delightful Airbnb very close to the centre. Mooncome Homestay is an oasis of calm at the end of a very quiet alley. You only know you're in Bangkok when you come out of the alley!   I will update with some more photos.

And if you are a cat lover, you are in luck as there are eight cats. All of them have their own Instagram # 😂. Once I know their names and have more photos I will update this post.

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! 👜 It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. 🚂✈️🚌🚢 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time 👋 Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day 🏖️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
