48 hours in Singapore

We landed very early at 6.15am. Amazing service at Changi Airport - within 45 minutes of landing we were off the plane, traveled the transfer train, through customs, picked up our luggage and then on the train to the city. Super efficient Singaporeans.

We stayed at the same hotel as our last trip in 2018 (D'Hotel). Good standard and reasonably priced. Not in the centre but very easy to hop back and forwards on the MRT to the bayfront.

On arrival we did get an early check in but had to twiddle our thumbs for 3 hours until we got into our room. After 13 hours flight and only 25 minutes sleep, jetlag started to kick in.  I felt like the earth was shaking. πŸ˜‚

I've been told many times that you should stay up for as long as possible the day you arrive. Very sorry but by 11am I was showered and in bed asleepπŸ›Œ for about 5 hours. Which was great at the time, until it was time to go to bed later. That's the fun of long haul travel. 😴
As we've been here before we did not revisit Raffles or major sightseeing spots. But we did go down to Marina Bay to take some photos and also eat with the locals in the reasonably priced shopping mall food court. Check out my Instagram and Facebook for the amazing video of the Rain Oculus πŸ˜€
Marina Bay Sands looks amazing in the day but even better at night.  When we go back in March 2023 I will definitely get to the Gardens by the Bay at night to share some more photos.

Singapore has been a very short stop to *try* and acclimatise to the climate and timezone. After 48 hours we move onto Malaysia and the fun of the land border crossing.

I saw this great poster in the public toilets on my way out of Singapore πŸ˜‚

Sri Lanka: the highs and lows of a month long trip

After a month of exploring Sri Lanka, we've packed our bags, ready to head back to the UK. I want to share some of the highs and lows of our adventure. Highlights Cheap : Our British pounds stretched remarkably far and we only  spent a total of  £1440 per person. The breakdown: £750 - Etihad indirect flights (1.5 hour stop off in Abu Dhabi)  £690 - Bed & Breakfast, dinner, all transport (bus, train, taxi), cultural entrance fees, hospital treatment, laundry and grocery shopping.  The People : Incredibly warm and hospitable, very friendly and eager to help. They really enjoyed stopping for a friendly chat on the street, and we felt genuinely welcomed as English tourists. Scenery : The views were breathtaking, particularly the hill country from a train.  Weather : Consistently hot and sunny. To avoid the intense heat, we found it best to travel very early morning.  Lovely Beaches : Beautiful and clean, though the steep drop off and powerful waves made sw...

Time to go home

I sign off my travel blog with a brief post. Today we are heading home. George snored all night so I had no sleep - just ready for a long flight 😬 Cases are packed and both around 12kg each so well under the limit! πŸ‘œ It's been an amazing 4 month trip in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia by sea, water, coach and train. πŸš‚✈️🚌🚒 It's very difficult to say what was my favourite part of the trip but Luang Prabang, Koh Lanta and Langkawi were highlights.  I'm not looking forward to the UK weather and I also need to find a job. But I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  Until the next time πŸ‘‹ Tracy x

Onwards to KL

We left the lovely island of Langkawi this morning. Our next stop is Kuala Lumpur. I highly recommend this beach resort and hopefully I will return again one day πŸ–️ #kualalumpur #malaysia #airasia
